Diabetes Web Resources

Here are some helpful websites about children and diabetes. To recommend a website to add to this list, please email camp@dagc.org.

  • National Institutes of Health/National Diabetes Education Program
The NDEP has many publications about diabetes in general and those focused for specific audiences, including children. A copy of the resource “Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel” is available here to be downloaded free.
  • Children with Diabetes
This website packs a tremendous amount of information into almost 5,000 pages. It is one of the primary resources for children with type 1 diabetes, their families and other adults with type 1 diabetes.
  • KidsHealth
This website is one of the most user-friendly, jargon-free and easy-to-understand sites around. Information about almost every aspect of children’s health is here, but the Diabetes Center section provides a wealth of information on kids and both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The website is divided into Kids, Teens, and Parents sections and covers applicable information in appropriate, practical language each audience will understand. Features include an animated movie about diabetes, insulin and glucose, a kid-friendly dictionary of diabetes terms, and personal stories by kids who live with diabetes.
  • KidsRPumping
This site’s focus is on children who are pumping insulin. Here children and their parents share their positive feelings and experiences about using insulin pumps.
  • The Starbright Foundation
A free copy of a CD-ROM game to help children with diabetes manage their disease is available to families of children with diabetes. It takes a player through an interactive, educational adventure that models a day in the life of a child with diabetes. Centered on an animated alien character named Xylo, a series of fast-paced exercises, quizzes, and arcade-style games provides the player with information to help them manage their diabetes. Call (800) 760-3818 to obtain a copy.
