Jack Pitfield Awarded Senior Camp Scholarship

Congratulations to Jack Pitfield of Toronto, Ontario for receiving the 2008 Camp Ho Mita Koda scholarship from the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland. Jack received a $1,000 academic scholarship commemorating his academic achievements, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.

Jack started attending Camp Ho Mita Koda in 1999 and spent five summers as a camper. Jack has always been the camper coming from furthest away, initially from Hong King, and during most of his years at camp, from his home in Singapore. During Jack’s first year as a camper, he received the Kodian Award, given each camp session by the camp staff to one boy and one girl camper who express the qualities symbolized in the letter of the name (Kindness, Obedience, Divine spirit, Initiative, Activities,Neatness). Jack subsequently became a counselor-in-training, a junior counselor, and a counselor. Among his great contributions is the waterfront program. Jack began working on the camp’s dilapidated sailboats as a CIT. During his spare time, he has refitted the boats, built a boat rack, and encouraged camp to apply for a boating grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, which the camp subsequently received. This summer, Jack is overseeing the expanded boating program

During high school, Jack was elected one of four officers for peer support, his school’s counseling office outreach program. He was a member of the varsity soccer team, the varsity badminton team, and captain of the varsity swim team, and was involved in a community soccer program as a referee and coach. Through his junior year Jack accumulated a 3.75 grade point average. He will attend Colgate University in the fall. Congratulations, Jack!
