Kali Starkey Awarded Senior Camp Scholarship
Kali Starkey, a senior at Painesville’s Riverside High School, was awarded the 2006 Camp Ho Mita Koda scholarship from the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland. Kali was a camper at Ho Mita Koda from ages 10 to 15 and was a counselor-in-training, then junior counselor for the past two summers. In Kali’s last summer as a camper, she received the Kodian award, given to only 2 campers each session by the camp staff.
At Riverside High School, Kali has maintained above a 4.0 grade point average for the last 3 years, is active in many school organizations, including Key Club, and is vice president of the National Honor Society. Kali has given up her 2 study halls to aid in the multiple disability classroom and to be a senior mentor, helping students with autism, Downs Syndrome, and other disabilities and tutoring fourteen 8th grade students. She is also a varsity swimmer and member of the varsity softball team.
Kali received a $500 academic scholarship commemorating her academic achievements, community involvement, and extracurricular activities. She plans to study medicine or physical therapy in college.
