Backpack Bivouac Supporters Pull Through
for Camp’s 80th Birthday

Backpack Bivouac XVIII presented by ACCU-CHEK, Camp Ho Mita Koda's 18th annual fundraiser, was held at the camp September 12, 2009. This year’s event was a birthday celebration marking the camp’s 80th year of providing summer fun for children with diabetes. All proceeds from Backpack Bivouac support the Camp’s upkeep, activities, special events, and camperships (reduced fees) for children with diabetes.

Despite the tough economic challenges in Northeast Ohio this year, 247 Camp Ho Mita Koda friends and supporters raised $42,600 (net) for camp programs and facilities. A Taste of Excellence catering served gourmet meals to celebrants in camper cabins and topped the evening off with fancy birthday cupcakes to celebrate the camp’s milestone year. The evening also included a silent auction that featured colorful flowerpots hand-painted by campers and a live auction, emceed by honorary co-chair Tom Beres of WKYC-TV. A special thank you to event chair Tricia Vance, auction chair Anne Harmody, and the volunteer committee members who made this event a successful celebration.
